Diabetes — Glycated Hemoglobin
Diabetes is a chronic disease that prevents the body from producing enough insulin or to use insulin effectively. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that is essential for the transformation of glucose (sugar) contained in food that we eat into energy. When diabetes is either not treated or poorly controlled, it can have serious consequences on our health and lead to various complications, such as heart diseases or kidney failure.
Several Accès pharma-affiliated pharmacies offer glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) measurement.
Taken through a capillary blood sampling, the measurement of glycated hemoglobin enables you to determine the concentration of glucose in the blood, called blood glycemia, over a period of three months. This is particularly useful and is the reference parameter in monitoring the glycemic balance in diabetic patients. Talk to your pharmacist for more information.
